Description

The vase and pedestal located on the lower south terrace of Wollaton Hall garden date from the late 18th century and were adapted in the early 19th century. They are made of sandstone. The vase features a shallow design with acanthus leaf carved moulding along the underside, which has been adapted and re-carved from a fragment of an 18th-century classical urn, similar to those created by Lord Burlington at Londesborough and Buxton Slopes. The stone pedestal and the base of the vase were designed in the mid-19th century specifically for the vase. The pedestal has a square moulded stone base and cornice, with a plain shaft made from Hollington sandstone.
