Description

Castle House is a late 18th century, two-storey red brick house located at No 24 Castle Street, adjacent to The Gate House. It features a slate hipped roof and three windows, with the right-hand side having two windows that project forward. The windows are sashes with glazing bars set in exposed casings, topped with flat brick arches. A stucco band runs along the building, complemented by a moulded eaves cornice and a small parapet. The house has a projecting brick inner porch and an open outer porch supported by Tuscan columns, which holds a modern door with a traceried fanlight. The side elevations also have two storeys with two windows, which are sashes with glazing bars. Castle House is part of a group of listed buildings that includes all the structures in Castle Street, Castle View, and Castle Yard, as well as Skeffington House, the Iron Gates, Chantry House, and Newarke Wall, all located in The Newarke.
