Description
The tower at the west end of the former S.D. Strettons and Sons Limited factory was built in 1890, possibly designed by the architect Bedingfield. This tall red brick tower is rectangular in shape and rises one storey and an attic above a four-storey and basement factory, to which it is attached. It features octagonal corner turrets that are corbelled out, with trefoil-headed paired sides and stone trefoil-headed windows. The tower culminates in a steep-pitched chateau-style roof adorned with pinnacles. The stone entrance has a moulded three-centered arch with carving above, flanked by sidelights and a stone mullion window above. The tower is part of a group that includes the Church of St Mary-de-Castro and other listed buildings in Castle Street, Castle View, and Castle Yard, as well as Skeffington House, the Iron Gates, Chantry House, and Newarke Wall in The Newarke.
