Description
Winter's Photographic Studio is a photographic studio built in 1867 for photographer William Walter Winter, with minor alterations made since. The building is constructed of painted brick with painted ashlar dressings and features a 20th-century concrete tile roof. It is two stories tall with an attic and has two gable stacks.
The street front has an off-centre doorway that is set back between large plate glass shop windows. The glazed door is flanked by sidelights, and above the shop windows, there are three pointed arches with overlights and columns featuring carved capitals. The fascia boards over the shop windows include some original gilded lettering.
To the left, there is a passage door within a painted and moulded stone surround, complete with a painted overlight and a carved doorway inscribed with "W.18.W.67.W." and a diagonally set plank door. To the right, there is another shop front with a plate glass window under a flat head, which has a pointed relieving arch above it. Above this, there is a six-light window with pointed arches for each light and a small balcony, with a small window located further to the right. This building was specifically designed as a photographic studio for William W Winter.
