Description

No. 40 Iron Gate is an 18th-century building that has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of stucco and features three storeys. The first storey has a modern showroom window that slightly projects and is topped with a cornice. The second storey retains two sash windows set within 19th-century moulded dog-eared surrounds. The building also has moulded wood eaves and is topped with tiles. The modern shop front is part of the overall design. This building is included for its group value with Nos. 40 to 43 (consecutive) and No. 4 Sadler Gate.
