Description
11 Iron Gate is a building dating from around 1895, designed in a debased Renaissance style. It features an ashlar exterior with a rusticated plinth and stands four storeys tall. The façade is adorned with four giant pilasters that rise over the first, second, and third storeys, topped with Corinthianesque capitals that incorporate masks. There are five sash windows without glazing bars, set within moulded architraves. The windows on the first storey are particularly notable, as they have pediments supported by elaborate pilaster brackets. Additional architectural details include sill bands, moulded eaves, and a blocking course.
On the ground storey, rusticated pilasters frame a central square-headed carriage entrance. To the right, there is a doorway with a plain rectangular fanlight and a six-panelled door.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 9 to 11 Iron Gate, Nos 15 to 17 Iron Gate, and the Cathedral Church of All Saints, along with No 2 Amen Alley, No 1 Queen Street, and Nos 1 and 3 College Place, as well as two posts at the west end of College Place.
