Description
37-38 St Marys Gate is a pair of mid to late 19th-century buildings constructed of red brick with stone dressings. They stand two storeys high and feature five sash windows with single glazing bars, each set in moulded stone surrounds. The buildings have a stone plinth and a doorway that is framed by a concave stone surround with a semi-circular head. Above the doorway is a carved stone roundel displaying the Royal Arms and an incised scroll. The buildings also have a plain frieze and a moulded eaves cornice. These properties are included for their group value, as they are part of a collection that includes Nos 25, 26, the Former Technical College Annexe, Nos 35 to 38, and Nos 40 to 42, which together form a cohesive architectural grouping with Nos 18 to 22 on Iron Gate.
