Description
The former offices of the East Midlands Gas Board, dated 1889, is an early example of a steel-framed building. It features red brick with stone dressings and consists of two storeys, a basement, and attics in gables. The building has three stone-coped gables topped with ball and obelisk finials. The two bays on the left each contain three windows with transoms and stone mullions, while the right-hand bay has a splayed bay window. There is a semi-circular arched doorway with a hood mould and a six-panelled divided door. A stone cornice runs along the first floor and eaves, and there is a brick frieze with "Derby Gas Light and Coke Co" in raised lettering. Wrought iron railings are present in the forecourt to the right and left of the entrance. A modern showroom window projects on the right-hand side. The Church of St Werburgh, the former offices of the East Midlands Gas Board, and No 7 form a group.
