Description
115A, 116, 117, and 117A Friar Gate is a mid-18th century building made of red brick. It stands three storeys high and features five sash windows set in broad frames, each with small stone keyblocks and flat brick arches. The central entrance has an impressive doorcase with rusticated jambs, a moulded rectangular frame with a triple keyblock, and a cornice supported by consoles. The building has a well-defined moulded eaves cornice and a brick parapet topped with stone capping. The right-hand side has a brick-coped gable, and there are modern shop fronts added to the ground level. This group of buildings also includes Nos 114A, 115, 115A, 116, 117A, and 118.
