Description
This is an early 19th-century terraced range of three-storey houses at 1-5 Poplar Row, Darley Abbey. Built for mill workers by the Evans family, the houses were completed by 1823. They are constructed of red brick with slate roofs, featuring segmental brick-arched door and window openings and a brick header dentil course along the eaves. The houses form part of a group of 18th and 19th-century houses and schoolrooms in Darley Abbey built or acquired by the Evans family for their workforce. This group is of group value, as it can be compared to the settlements established by Richard Arkwright at Cromford and by George Strutt at Belper and Milford.
