Description
These are two early to mid-19th century brick-built cottages, originally forming a continuous range with Darley Hall Stables. They have now been combined into a single dwelling. The cottages are two bays wide and two storeys high, with a slate roof. They feature shallow brick arched door and window openings, and a planked door within a pegged door frame is located at No. 2. The cottages were built by the Evans family and are depicted on a map dating from 1852. Their significance lies within the group of 18th and 19th century houses and schoolrooms built by the Evans family for their workers in Darley Abbey, representing a settlement comparable to those established by Arkwright at Cromford and by Strutt at Belper and Milford.
