Description
Dean's Field, also known as Mill House, is an early to mid-19th century, two-storey villa built from painted brick with a hipped slate roof. It was formerly the Managers House for Evan's paper mill. Most of the windows have been modernized, except for one 8-pane sliding sash window on the north elevation. The property is shown on the 1852 map but does not appear on the 1811 Liberty Map.
The houses and schoolrooms from the 18th and 19th centuries in Darley Abbey, built or acquired by different generations of the Evans family for their workers, are significant as a group. They provide a point of comparison with the Arkwright settlement at Cromford and the Strutt settlements at Belper and Milford.
