Description
The White House is an early 19th-century, two-storey house built over a semi-basement. It is constructed of brick and covered in stucco, featuring a hipped slate roof and service wings on the sides. The house was built by the Evans family. The street and side elevations are stuccoed and have flat pilasters at the corners along with sash windows. It is adjacent to No 1 New Road, known as The Hollies. The front door is located in the side return off Abbey Yard.
The houses and schoolrooms from the 18th and 19th centuries in Darley Abbey, built or acquired by various generations of the Evans family for their workers, are significant as a group. They can be compared to the Arkwright settlement at Cromford and the Strutt settlements at Belper and Milford.
