Description
The Old Abbey Building, dating from the 15th century, is a stone structure with two storeys. It features three square-headed windows and four buttresses with offsets, one of which has been significantly enlarged later to support a bulge. The building retains remains of cusped heads to the lights and has an old tile roof with gabled ends. It is part of the remnants of Darley Abbey, an Augustinian Priory that was relocated from St Helens in Derby during the 12th century. The Old Abbey Building, along with Nos 5 to 10 (consecutive), Nos 6A and 9A, forms a group with Nos 1 to 12 (consecutive) Flat Square and Nos 1 to 8 (consecutive) West Row.
