Description
The Hollies is a two-storey, L-shaped villa built between 1803 and 1806. Constructed from brick with a hipped slate roof, it was created by the Evans family. The main elevation, which faces northwest, is positioned at right angles to the street and overlooks a garden. It features two 16-pane sliding sash windows on each level, a central doorway with a canopy and doorcase, and service wings on the sides.
The house is part of a group of 18th and 19th-century buildings in Darley Abbey that were built or acquired by various generations of the Evans family for their workers. This group is of interest as it can be compared to the Arkwright settlement at Cromford and the Strutt settlements at Belper and Milford.
