Description
A group of late 18th and early 19th century cottages built of brick with slate roofs. The group consists of two pairs of two-storey cottages and two pairs of three-storey cottages. They feature timber sash windows and modillion eaves. Numbers 6A and 7, and 9A and 10, were likely built before approximately 1790 and acquired by the Evans family at that time. Numbers 8 and 9 appear to have been constructed between the older pairs by 1811, while numbers 5 and 6 are later, built before 1852. The cottages are of group value alongside other 18th and 19th century houses and schoolrooms in Darley Abbey, all built or acquired by the Evans family for their workers. The group's significance lies in its comparison with similar settlements at Cromford (associated with Arkwright) and Belper and Milford (associated with Strutt).
