Description
15-17 Iron Gate is a late 19th-century building made of red brick with stone dressings. It stands three storeys tall and features stone pilasters that rise over the first and second storeys, each topped with capitals that incorporate animal heads. The façade includes both plain and elaborately moulded stone bands, and there are four sash windows. The building has a curved angle on the return side, which also has four windows with pilasters and semi-circular stone heads adorned with mojolica plaques. At the top, there is a modillion eaves cornice and a brick parapet that includes inserted stone balustrading. The ground storey features pilasters with vermiculated rustication and modern shop fronts. This building is noted for its group value, as it is part of a collection that includes Nos 9 to 11, Nos 15 to 17, and the Cathedral Church of All Saints, along with No 2 Amen Alley, No 1 Queen Street, and Nos 1 and 3 College Place, as well as two posts at the west end of College Place.
