Description
The Gymnasium and Studio at the Diocesan Training College, built in 1914, is designed in the Arts and Crafts style by Curry and Thompson. It is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof featuring half hips. The building has two storeys and consists of seven bays supported by buttresses. The lower storey houses the gymnasium, while the upper storey contains the studio. Entrances are located on the east front.
The ground floor windows on the east and west fronts have segmental two-order arches and splayed jambs. On the east front, all studio windows are full width between the buttresses and extend above the main eaves level. Gablets above the first, third, and fifth windows are linked by high-level eaves over the second and fourth windows. The west front features blank arches made of lighter coloured brick that spring between the buttresses, with crowns positioned below the eaves level.
At the southwest corner, there is a projecting semi-circular stair turret, which has canted sides in its upper part and oversailing corners supported by brick corbelling. The turret is topped with a candle snuffer roof and a metal finial.
