Description
The monument to Robert Pegg, located in the General Cemetery, was erected in 1867. It is made of polished granite and ashlar, featuring cast iron railings. The monument has a square ashlar base adorned with ornate iron railings and prominent corner balusters. The base is grey and chamfered. Above it is a red block inscribed with the words: "To the memory of ROBERT PEGG Esq/ A Magistrate of this borough/ Born July 22nd 1801/ Died June 21st 1867". The left face of the monument is inscribed to his wife, SARAH. Above this is a large red granite column with a moulded grey base, ring, and capital, which is topped with a shallow red granite pyramid.
