Description

Nos 20 and 21 Iron Gate are late 18th century or early 19th century buildings that have undergone later alterations. They are constructed of red brick and stand three storeys tall, featuring three windows with flat brick arches, which are now fitted with modern casements. The buildings have a plain parapet with stone coping. The ground storey projects and includes a well-preserved later 19th century shop front, which has eaves topped with iron brattishing. These buildings are included for their group value, as they form a cohesive architectural group with Nos 18 to 22, Nos 25, 26, the Former Technical College Annexe, and Nos 35 to 38 and 40 to 42 on St Mary's Gate.
