Description

56-57 Friar Gate are a pair of mid-18th century houses. They are constructed of red brick and rise to three storeys. Each house features five sash windows with keyblocks and channelled lintels. The stone doorcases are identical, adorned with pediments on consoles, traceried fanlights, and six-panelled doors. A moulded stone cornice runs along the top. Number 56 has a slate roof, while Number 57 is covered with modern red tiles. These houses are part of a group that includes Nos 27 to 32, the Friar Gate Railway Bridge, and Nos 35 to 39, as well as Nos 41 to 51 and No 47 Ford Street.
