Description

This is an early to mid-19th century terrace of three storeys and a basement, situated on South Parade. Most of the houses in the terrace have three bays, although numbers 5, 6, and 10 each have five. The terrace was built in phases, using different kinds of red brick. The roofs are fairly low-pitched and slate-covered, with stone eaves cornices, some of which have dentils. The five-bay houses have stone basements and cill bands. The windows are sash windows, mostly with glazing bars, and they have stone cills, flat or near-flat gauged brick arches. A modern link between numbers 5 and 6 incorporates a Venetian-shaped window. Number 10 has a rusticated, rendered plinth, architraves to its central windows (the first-floor window featuring a pediment), and a wrought iron balcony rail above a prostyle Ionic porch with an eight-panel door. Other houses have six-panel doors with radial fanlights of varying patterns; those at numbers 7, 8, and 9 are set within plain round gauged brick arches. Numbers 5, 11, 12, and 14A have Tuscan doorcases with segmental pediments (except number 12, which has a triangular pediment), and number 6 has a shallow Tuscan porch.
