Description

The Urban Studies Centre, originally a Methodist Primary School, was built in 1846. It features an inscribed and dated plaque in the pediment above a slightly projecting central bay. The building is a single storey with three wide bays, constructed of coursed ashlar with raised quoins, plinths, a cornice, and a parapet. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, include a tripartite arrangement in the center, all set within architraves that are topped with console bracketed cornices. The north return has plain sills and lintels for its tripartite windows, which are fixed lights with small panes. The south return is similar, and there are additional, simpler rear sections made of coursed stone with fairly low pitched slated roofs, also featuring sash windows with glazing bars.
