Description

1-4 South Parade is an early to mid-19th century terrace of three to five bays and three storeys, with a basement. The buildings are constructed of red brick, featuring a wide stone ground floor band and a stone moulded and dentilled eaves cornice. The roofs are low-pitched and slated. The windows are sash windows, with a mix of glazing bars, set under flat gauged brick arches with stone cills. Several first-floor windows have patterned cast iron balconies, and there are wrought iron basement covers.

Number 1 has a four-panel door with an oblong fanlight within a prostyle Tuscan porch. Numbers 2 and 4 feature six-panel doors with fanlights within architraves incorporating impost blocks. Number 2’s doorcase consists of engaged Tuscan columns and an entablature, while Number 4 has a thin outer architrave and cornice. The door of Number 3 has been altered to a window, within a doorcase stylistically similar to that of Number 2 and featuring enrichment.
