Description
This structure is a culvert and sluice located approximately 50 meters east of the iron bridge at Walton Hall, situated on the north bank of the lake that surrounds Walton Hall. It dates from the mid-18th century and mid-19th century and is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and cast iron. The culvert features a segmental-arched entrance at the edge of the lake, with about 10 meters leading to a mid-19th century cast-iron sluice mechanism. Adjacent to the 19th-century gate is an earlier 18th-century wooden gate, which has an iron ring at the top. The purpose of this structure is to manage surface water from the lake during periods of flooding.
