Description
The island wall surrounding Walton Hall, which includes two boathouses, steps, and a landing stage to the west, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings. The curved walls are made of well-coursed masonry and feature regularly spaced projecting piers. The ashlar flat coping slightly projects over the walls. To the west, there is a semicircular landing stage at a lower level, which is accessed by five well-dressed ashlar steps. The boathouses on the left have shallow arches with raised keystones and projecting piers on either side, providing an inner chamber for boats. The roof supports a sundial.
