Description
This is a milepost located on the west side of the road in Darrington, dating from the late 19th century. It is made of sandstone and features cast-iron facing plates. The milepost has a triangular shape and stands approximately 1 metre high. It has a flat-faced semicircular head and chamfered sides, with raised lettering that indicates the distances: "TADCASTER & DONCASTER" around the top, and "ROAD DARRINGTON YORK DONCASTER 25? MILES 11 MILES TADCASTER 15½ MILES" on the sides.
