Description
Two houses, likely dating from the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of brick, with ashlar dressings; No. 26 has a rendered facade and coursed stone at the rear. They have stone slate roofs, with bitumen covering the rear of No. 26. No. 24 is three bays wide and has a symmetrical facade with raised ashlar quoins. A central doorway features a moulded architrave and a six-panel door with an eight-pane overlight. There are three-light bow windows on either side, with a curved central twelve-pane sash and narrow side sashes, all with moulded cornices. The first floor has twelve-pane sashes in raised surrounds. Moulded eaves cornices and a blocking course are also present. Broad lateral stacks and a pyramidal roof complete the appearance of No. 24. No. 26 is lower and set back, forming a two-bay wing. It has two-light twelve-pane sashes to the left and an added porch with a single twelve-pane sash above. A small garage addition to the left is not considered to be of special interest. The rear elevation has three bays of twelve-pane sashes, with a central, quoined doorway in a later porch. The right return of No. 24 features three blind windows in raised surrounds on both floors. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. Buildings adjoining the rear of No. 26 are not included in the listing.
