Description
This building, a former Sunday School above stables, was constructed around 1796 for Godfrey Wentworth of Woolley Hall. It is made of hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The structure has two storeys and includes quoins. The central doorway, which leads to the stable, is flanked by windows that have much-weathered lintels. There is an original stable doorway on the right end, which is now blocked and has a deep quoined lintel and composite jambs. The first floor has two windows on either side of a former taking-in door. The gable is coped and has kneelers. On the left side, there is a flight of ten stone steps leading to a first-floor doorway with monolithic jambs. Above this doorway was originally a date plaque, which is now housed in the coach-house, inscribed: "Built by Godfrey Wentworth Esq for a Sunday School Anno 1796."
