Description
Nos 51 and 53 on Westgate End are a pair of houses built around 1800. They are constructed of red brick and topped with a stone slate roof, featuring two brick gable stacks. The buildings are two storeys high with a basement. The street-facing side has three bays, with a central door accessed by a flight of four steps. The door is a six-panel design with a tall, attenuated fanlight above. On either side of the door, there are single glazing bar sash windows. Above the door, there is a central blank panel flanked by two sashes; the left one is plain while the right one has glazing bars. The left gable front includes a central doorway with a six-panel door and a tall staircase window with glazing bars above it, along with a glazing bar sash to the left and another glazing bar sash above. In the gable, there is a small plain sash window. Inside, there is a single fanlight return staircase featuring turned balusters and a mahogany handrail. The interior also includes a single 19th-century fireplace and a mid-19th-century marble fireplace.
