Description

This barn, located approximately 5 metres west of Broad Lane Farm East farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with a roof that features stone slate on the lower half and pantiles on the upper half on both sides. The barn has a rectangular six-bay plan.

The south front includes a large segmental-arched wagon doorway in the third bay, which has a chamfered surround made of dressed masonry. To the left, the first and second bays are covered by a large added lean-to cartshed, which is not included in the listing. To the right of the wagon doorway, there are two doorways with chamfered surrounds of dressed masonry, although the first doorway is blocked. Above and between these doorways is a three-light mullioned window, with the second mullion replaced by a wooden prop. The barn also features slit breathers on three levels, an inserted window, and a square loading door at different levels in the fourth bay.

The right-hand (east) gable wall has a raised doorway with a chamfered surround, a three-light mullioned window to the left, and a similar window in the gable, although the second and third lights are blocked and the corresponding mullion has been removed. On the north side, there is an altered wagon doorway leading to a lean-to addition on the right, along with slit breathers on three levels and a blocked square loading door with a chamfered surround.
