Description
This field barn, likely built in the 18th century, features a later addition and is located on the south side of the road, approximately 150 meters southwest of High Chapel. Constructed from coursed dry-jointed sandstone rubble with quoins and some through-stones, it has a stone slate roof. The barn has a rectangular five-bay plan oriented on a north-south axis, facing west.
The west side includes a segmental-headed wagon doorway with long thin rubble voussoirs and a stone slate drip-band, along with an added lean-to shed on the right. The south gable displays through-stones on five levels. The east side has similar through-stones, a blocked doorway at the south end, and a square loading doorway located above and to the right of this blocked entrance.
Inside, the barn features low-pitched principal-rafter roof trusses made from heavy scantling, which are roughly hewn. Notably, the second truss from the north end is inscribed with "EF / 1728". This barn is a good example of its type.
