Description
Numbers 13 and 14 are houses that have been converted into offices, located on Park Place in Leeds. They were built between 1788 and 1791 by William Hargrave and were restored in the 20th century. The buildings are made of red brick in Flemish bond with a slate roof and feature wrought-iron railings. They stand three stories tall with a basement, each having three bays. The entrances are located on the left side, featuring fielded-panel doors with fanlights set in wooden pilastered surrounds, complete with entablatures and pediments. The windows are restored sashes with glazing bars, stone sills, and slightly cambered wedge lintels, along with a sill band at the first floor. The interior has not been inspected. The railings include a gate on the right, with a standard that has a maker's plaque reading 'A DOUGILL/ 36 GT GEORGE ST/ LEEDS'; the bars are topped with ball finials. William Hargrave, a master carpenter, constructed most of the houses in Park Place on land leased from the Wilson estate, which were rented to wealthy cloth merchants and professionals moving away from the crowded medieval town center.
