Description
No. 9 Park Place is a house, now used as offices, built between 1785 and 1794 by William Hargrave. The building features red brick in Flemish bond with stone details and a slate roof. It has three storeys and five windows. There are steps leading up to a central panelled door with a fanlight, flanked by Tuscan three-quarter columns, an entablature, and a dentilled pediment. The windows have restored glazing bars, stone sills, and slightly cambered arches, with a continuous band at the first floor. The building is topped with a modillion eaves cornice and has a stack positioned forward of the ridge on the left side. The interior has not been inspected. William Hargrave constructed at least 14 houses for merchants relocating from the crowded medieval town centre to Park Place, which is part of the Wilson estate.
