Description
Number 10 is a house that has been converted into offices, located on Park Place and built between 1785 and 1794, likely by William Hargrave. The building features red brick with stone details and a slate mansard roof. It has three storeys and an added mansard attic, arranged in three bays. The entrance is on the left and includes a panelled door with a fanlight, framed by three-quarter Tuscan columns that support an entablature, dentilled cornice, and pediment. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, slightly arched lintels, and sills, with a sill band at the first floor. There are end stacks on the roof. The interior has not been inspected. The area railings include a bootscraper near the doorway, and the bars have bud finials. William Hargrave constructed at least 14 houses in Park Place on land leased from the Wilson estate, intended for houses and workshops for the gentleman merchant community, which was moving away from the crowded medieval town centre.
