Description
This is a group of four monuments dedicated to the Hardaker and Booth families, located approximately 1 metre east of the east wall of the chancel of the Church of St. Peter. They date from the early to mid-18th century and are made of sandstone.
Arranged in a row from north to south, the monuments are as follows:
(i) A slab commemorating Roger Hardaker, who died in 1725, and his wife, who died in 1728. It features a hollowed arched surround with winged angel heads in the spandrels.
(ii) A tomb chest for James, the son of John and Sarah Booth, who died in 1766. This monument has fielded panel sides and a moulded arched surround with a keystone.
(iii) A slab for John Booth, dated around 1704, though the third digit is worn. It has a border of punched triangles and a raised, decorated date set in a sunk panel.
(iv) A tomb chest for James Booth, who died in 1742. This features a moulded surround to the lid with fans in the corners.
