Description
This listing describes a monumental slab and an adjacent stone coffin located on the south-west corner of the junction of paths, approximately 3 metres south-west of the porch of the Church of St. Oswald. The monumental slab, dated 1658, commemorates Elizabeth Hoppay and features an inscription in large, crudely-formed capitals, with a later addition to the inscription from 1682. The stone coffin, which is medieval and lacks a lid, is hewn from a single block and has a tapering shape with a shouldered interior. It is presumed to be out of its original context. Both the slab and coffin are made of sandstone and are placed side-by-side.
