Description

Grove House East and Grove House West, located at Grove House Court, is a large house that has been divided into two residences. It was built in 1839 for Joshua Burton, a wool stapler, and has undergone alterations in the 20th century. The building features hammer-dressed ashlar stone and has a low-pitched slate hipped roof, complete with a cornice and blocking course.

The structure is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has sash windows with glazing bars, although the left window is blind. The central entrance is notable for its Tuscan columns that support an entablature, along with a semicircular fanlight that also has glazing bars. The south elevation displays two storeys with a window arrangement of 2:3:2, featuring a central bay with three windows in a semicircular shape. A large stone chimney with a cornice is centrally positioned.

Inside, the entrance hall boasts a cantilevered staircase with two flights, complemented by a cast-iron balustrade and a ramped handrail. The rooms facing the garden are adorned with grey and black marble fireplaces and include shutters.
