Description
Broadcasting House, formerly known as Friends' Meeting House, is a Quaker meeting house that has been converted into studios. It was built between 1866 and 1868 by Edward Birchall and features a classical style. The building is constructed of ashlar with a slate roof and has two storeys with five by six bays. The ground floor projects outward and includes a central entrance flanked by Tuscan columns that support an entablature with an arcaded pediment. There is a round arch doorway and two windows on each side of the entrance. The first floor has plate-glass sash windows set in moulded architraves, topped with cornice hoods on console brackets. The building is adorned with a modillion cornice and a large pediment that features a round window, with squat rusticated chimneys at the corners. The interior has not been inspected. The area where the building is located is known as Carlton Hill.
