Description
The remains of an early 19th-century lodge and attached wall stand on Boston Road, near Wetherby. Originally part of the Wetherby Grange estate, the lodge was largely demolished in the mid-20th century. It was constructed from ashlar magnesian limestone.
What remains is a single-story, three-bay facade with return walls, though the interior is lost. A wall extends to the left, terminating in a concave quadrant with an end pier. The facade features a rusticated plinth. The central bay projects and has a set of four half-round steps leading up to a semicircular portico with Doric columns, a plain frieze, a molded cornice, and a parapet formed of wooden balusters between stone dies. The side bays have recessed panels containing blind windows with molded sills and architraves, mirroring the design of the central bay's entablature and parapet.
The attached wing wall continues to another rusticated pier, the site of former gate piers that have been removed. The quadrant wall beyond continues and terminates at a square pier with a concave top. The design of this lodge corresponds with that of the surviving lodge at Moor End, Boston Spa.
