Description

The front wall and gate piers to Armley Cemetery were built in 1886 and altered in the 20th century. The structure is made of ashlar and coursed gritstone, featuring iron gates. The inner and outer gate piers are square in section, approximately 2.5 meters high, with a chamfered plinth and shaft, cornice brackets, and stepped pyramid capstones topped with small trefoil-panelled finials. Similar piers are spaced along the length of the approximately 100-meter long wall, which has chamfered coping, although the railings are missing. This structure is included for its group value.
