Description
Numbers 1 and 2 are a warehouse building constructed around 1870, designed by Stephen Smith, and altered in the 20th century. The building is made of red brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof, along with cast-iron basement railings and a bollard. It has four storeys and a basement, with a total of seven bays. The basement piers exhibit vermiculated rustication, and there is a heavy roll moulding at the ground-floor level. Steps with low flanking walls lead up to a round-arched entrance, which is framed by a moulded architrave with carved spandrels, a bay-leaf bolection frieze, and a pediment above. The ground-floor windows are round-arched and set in moulded brick surrounds, topped with a cornice. The upper-floor windows also feature full-height round arch openings, fitted with 20th-century frames. A heavy bracketed eaves cornice completes the design. The interior has not been inspected. The subsidiary features include basement railings with standards topped by ball finials and ornate scrolled panels in between. There is also a bollard against the far left flanking wall of the steps, approximately 0.7 meters high, designed in a baluster form with roll mouldings and a ball finial.
