Description
The Leeds Dam on the River Aire is a Grade II listed weir with medieval origins, likely rebuilt in the mid-19th century during the construction of the Clarence Dock area. It is made of stone and is located on the River Aire below Crown Point Bridge. Originally, the dam served the Nether Mills and was first documented in 1636; the tail race from the mills created Fearne's Island. The dam acted as a barrier to water transport until the cutting made by the Aire and Calder Navigation around 1700.
