Description

The bridge over the River Aire was built around 1775 by John Gott, who was the County Surveyor of Bridges. It is constructed of dressed stone and features four segmental arches with triangular-shaped cutwaters. Above these cutwaters are slightly projecting piers that continue to the abutments. The bridge has a band and a parapet with chamfered coping, with the parapet on the north bank abutment likely extended in the mid-20th century. The surface of the bridge is made of stone sets, which are arranged with three rows of long flagstones. This bridge was built to replace a previous one that was destroyed by a flood in 1774.
