Description

AIREBOROUGH TOWN STREET SE 23 NW LS 19 (north side) Rawdon 10B/23 Group of 3 Hird monuments approx. 3 metres south-east of chancel of Church of St. Peter GV II

Group of 3 monuments. Mid C18. Sandstone. In row from north to south as follows:-

(i) Slab: Jane, wife of John Hird (d.1750), and the said John Hird (d.1751); good lettering, raised and decorated dates in sunk panels.

(ii) Slab: John Hird (d.1775); decorated arched surround with shouldered head and scallop keystone, elaborately carved winged angel heads in in spandrels, ex situ (placed on another slab).

(iii) Slab: John Hird, 2nd son of John Hird (d.January 1753) and John Hird, 3rd son of John Hird (d.August 1753); elegant lettering, raised and decorated dates in sunk panels.
