Description

The War Memorial in Armley Park is a First World War memorial dating from around 1920. It is constructed of ashlar stone and designed in the Gothic Revival style. The memorial features a six-sided plinth and a two-stage open-sided shaft topped with a cross. Each side of the plinth has three cusped niches that contain lists of names. Above these niches, there is an inscription that reads: "TRUE LOVE BY LIFE/ TRUE LOVE BY DEATH/ IS TRIED. LIVE THOU/ FOR ENGLAND, WE/ FOR ENGLAND DIED./ 1914-1919."
