Description
Nos. 226, 228, and 230 on Harrogate Road are a house and shops, now used as offices and shops. They were built in the early 19th century and have had some later alterations. The building is made of coursed squared gritstone and has a slate roof that is hipped on the left side. It has two storeys above a basement, with shop premises on the left return.
The central entrance features a panelled door with an overlight that has glazing bars, all set within a recessed round-arched surround complete with a keystone and impost blocks. To the right, there are sash windows with glazing bars, likely part of No. 218A, while the other windows have four panes. The ground floor windows are topped with stone wedge lintels, and there is a continuous sill band on the first floor. A central stack straddles the ridge of the roof. On the left return facing the road, the lower ground floor has two late 20th-century shop windows, while the upper floors feature four-pane sashes and blind recesses. The interior has not been inspected.
