Description
A group of five monuments located approximately 9 metres south of the Church of St. Peter, on the east side of the path, dates from the late 18th century and early 19th century. They are made of sandstone and are arranged in an irregular row from north to south as follows:
(i) A table monument commemorating James, son of Richard and Elizabeth Thompson, who died in 1814. It features a scrolled slab leg at each end and a moulded top that is fully lettered.
(ii) A slab for Sarah Barwick, wife of Thomas Barwick, who died in 1785. This slab is finely lettered and includes a foliated initial "H" along with a short verse.
(iii) A slab for Hannah, daughter of Thomas and Hannah Jackson, who died in 1800, along with five other children. It has a finely-decorated arched head with incised foliated patterns and a keystone, as well as large roundel flowers in the spandrels.
(iv) A slab for Ann, daughter of William and Hannah Musgrave, who died in 1793, along with three other children.
(v) A very large slab for Sarah, daughter of Michael Oddy, who died in 1794. This slab features a moulded edge, an arched head with a fluted keystone, and hollow spandrels that contain large and finely-carved winged angel heads.
