Description

East Lodge Cottages is a pair of cottages, likely built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of coursed squared magnesian limestone and feature a stone slate roof. The cottages are arranged in a U-shape and are two stories high, with a layout of 1:2:1 bays. They are designed in a Jacobean style, characterized by projecting gabled crosswings and a first-floor drip band that runs around the entire building.

The main range consists of two bays, with chamfered doorways at the outer ends and two windows on each floor. The ground floor windows are chamfered recessed mullioned windows, with mullions only in the outer lights, and three-light casements situated between them. The wing gables also have chamfered recessed mullioned windows, with hoodmoulds above the upper windows. The first floor features recessed three-light casements in both the main range and the return walls. There are chamfered single-light windows at the ground floor of the re-entrants and the rear bays of the wings.

The cottages have ridged gable copings with kneelers and apex finials, along with gablets over the first-floor windows of the main range, which also have similar copings but no finials. There is a ridge chimney located in the center of the main range and on each wing, with smaller chimneys offset from the apex of the rear gables of the wings. The rear and interior of the cottages have not been inspected.
