Description
The war memorial in Lawnswood Cemetery, located on the south side of Otley Road in Leeds, was constructed around 1920. It is made of Portland stone and bronze and consists of three parts. The memorial features an octagonal plinth and a chamfered cross that stands approximately 4 meters high, topped with a bronze sword. To the north, there is a screen wall that is about 10 meters long and 1.5 meters high, with deeply-chamfered coping that is incised with the words: "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVER MORE." Attached to this wall are 16 bronze panels adorned with a floriate cross, listing the names of those who were killed in World War I. Additionally, a second low wall to the east bears the names of those who lost their lives in World War II.
